Something like 'I'We' is a good starting point for an introduction to the topic at hand. You can also use a sub-heading, an obvious point to start with like 'Treatments for tinnitus', 'What does music mean to us?'One good example is when we speak of music and tinnitus. If your student has tinnitus and you provide a case study of what goes on in the ear when listening to music, they might learn something about this.Essays are usually written in first person.
